When working in areas where there is a risk of falling, reliable fall protection is essential to ensure the highest possible level of safety. In addition to measures for collective protection, there are also individual systems such as rail or rope systems. As a rule, these systems consist of an anchorage device with one or more individual anchorage points, ropes or rails. You also need personal fall protection equipment (PPE), consisting of a harness and lanyard. Such lanyards usually have a maximum length of 2 meters and can also have two arms, each with a carabiner. In addition, there are also moving fall arresters that can be adjusted to different lengths using a rope shortener. What they all have in common is that they are always equipped with a force-absorbing element, the so-called energy absorber. This is usually designed as a shock absorber that tears open in the event of a fall and thus reduces the force exerted on the user to a maximum of 6 kN. These devices serve as an extendable connection between the personal fall arrest harness and the anchor point. Equipped with an automatic blocking function and an automatic tensioning and retraction device, a retractable fall arrester catches a fall from a height. The steel cable or webbing of the device is attached to the anchor point with a carabiner. Another carabiner is used to attach it to the harness of the person to be secured. fall arresters have an integrated fall arrest mechanism that reduces the force exerted on the user during a fall to a maximum of 6 kN.
