Things to know about fall protection on the glass façade

Fall protection for glass façades: Safe on buildings with glazing

LUX-top® ensures safety – even on glass façades! Large glass façades or windows in prestigious administrative buildings or museums not only provide lighting inside during the day, they are also a symbol of openness and exchange.

Glass façades have become an integral part of modern architecture. As the face of the building, they stand for aesthetics, light and design – but also for structural challenges and special requirements. Transparent façades are not only particularly susceptible to dirt and therefore need to be cleaned more often. Working on façades with glass also involves a particular risk of accidents. To ensure that the maintenance and care of a glass façade or large windows does not become an insurmountable challenge, we have our LUX-top® KLICK II and LUX-top® KLICK SZP removable anchor points in our range.

Maximum safety for work on glass façades

What many people don’t realize is that glass façades with large windows require significantly more attention than other façades without glazing. To maintain their architectural effect, they need to be regularly maintained and cleaned. What can be done on the outside with mobile lifting platforms requires considerably more effort on the inside of the building. Above all, the overall architectural impression inside should not be diminished by technical installations.

This requires fall protection systems for work on buildings with large areas of glazing. These should integrate harmoniously into the design of the aesthetically sophisticated glass façade and at the same time ensure maximum safety.

LUX-top® products for fall protection on glass façades and windows

Our LUX-top® KLICK SZP and LUX-top® KLICK II systems with removable anchor points are particularly suitable for working on glass façades.

With the KLICK SZP, we offer a removable anchor point that can be clicked into a special anchor sleeve if required. The anchor sleeve can be integrated at the factory during the manufacture of the supporting elements for glass façades. If necessary, the anchor sleeve can be covered with a color-matched magnetic disc and made practically invisible. The removable anchor point is carried by the industrial climber. Removing the magnetic disk and attaching and detaching the LUX-top® KLICK SZP can be done with one hand. This promotes the flow of work and provides additional safety when working on glass. You can see the anchor point in use, for example, in a project that we were able to realize together with Axel Springer SE.

Our LUX-top® KLICK II is made of stainless steel and undergoes factory production control (FPC) in accordance with EN 1090-2 to meet even the highest requirements. It is tested and certified as a single anchor point in accordance with DIN EN 795 Type A and DIN CEN/TS 16415:2017 Type A and has a general building authority approval (abZ) and general type approval (aBG) from the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). The manufacturing company is also subject to ISO 9001 and EN 1090-2, meaning that this anchor point provides reliable support for up to 2 users on glass façades at the same time.

By the way: Individual solutions and special designs are also no problem! Please feel free to contact us. As professionals in the field of safety on roofs and glass façades, we can advise you on the right fall protection for your project!

FAQ: frequently asked questions about safety barriers for glass façades

For which substrates is the LUX-top® KLICK II system suitable?

The removable anchor point system LUX-top® KLICK II was developed for attachment to steel and concrete components. For both substrates, the systems meet the requirements for facilities for the maintenance of structural installations, for planning principles for anchorage devices on roofs and for technical rules for workplaces – protection against falls from a height.

Is the LUX-top® KLICK SZP system approved for use by 2 people at the same time?

It depends on the type of use! The KLICK SZP from LUX-top® is designed for use by a maximum of one person when used by industrial climbers as part of the support system in accordance with TRBS 2121-3. In this case, the user transfers the forces that occur during abseiling to the KLICK SZP. Two people may also be secured to it at the same time if they are only using PPE to protect themselves from falling. Taking into account DIN EN 795:2012 and DIN CEN/TS 16415:2017, the basic health and safety requirements are met.

What needs to be considered when installing safety barriers for glass roofs and glass façades?

Installation may only be carried out by qualified personnel and with the fixing materials included in the scope of delivery. The recommended mounting distances must also be observed. These are, for example, for the KLICK SZP system

  • As an abseiling point for attaching the support system maximum 2 meters and in building corners maximum 1 meter
  • Used purely as an anchor point, the maximum mounting distance is 3 meters
